Trip to Elgol from Broadford
There was heavy rain making much noise landing on the tent during the night and the morning started very wet so there was a later than usual start to the trip to Elgol. The raging rivers, thundering waterfalls and flooding in unusual places evidenced the surfeit of recent rainfall.
The weather improved gradually until in the afternoon at Elgol there was sunshine with blue sky and sea and hilltops were clearly visible. Sun and views were enjoyed by all.
As usual it was enjoyable to chat to relatives, other Misty Isle staff and other locals met previously over many years. Rachel Henderson, a name known to me for her music, is now working for Misty Isle and perhaps tomorrow there will be time to listen to her part in yesterday’s Travelling Folk – Celebrating 30 Years of Traditional Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
On hearing my pleasure at finally meeting Rachel, Katie, one of the two ladies serving meals at Café Elgol told me that Rachel was her older sister! (She did not add that the other lady on duty was her own twin sister).
The cycle back to Broadford in the early evening light with a following breeze and little traffic was most enjoyable, as was being able to eat outside with enough wind to keep away the midges.
After eating, using the shelter to write this log whilst recharging the phone, it was my great pleasure to hear Mathylde, a fellow bikepacker, sing to the accompaniment of her ukulele. You can access two clips of her singing below.
