Day 8 of Tour 3

Beauly to East Daviot via Inverness

The alternative route back to Inverness from Beauly took the A 862 eastwards from Beauly, turned right just before Muir of Ord and followed the cycle Route 20 signs to North Kessock. The Beauly Firth looked different with a very low tide and a glassy surface. Before the sun came out there was much grey to be seen.

The Kessock Hotel provided an enjoyable breakfast with a good range of options on offer and a view including reflections seen in the Moray Firth.

A right turn on NCR 1 to the centre of Inverness facilitated a stop at Highland Bikes for advice on panniers and the purchase of the correct lead to charge this iPhone from an expert at Currys ( third time lucky!).

There was plenty to discuss at my second visit to my Inverness cousin and afterwards there were useful visits to other shops. Perhaps it is Sod’s Law that causes my spectacles to fall apart mid-way through a tour.

From Inverness to Daviot East was the reverse of that taken to reach Inverness from the south, using NCR 1 then NCR 7. A new wide cycling path/pavement in Smithton south-west of Culloden is a welcome improvement. Here at Auchnahillin Holiday Park help was offered and gratefully accepted on planning tomorrow’s Great Glen ride. The lack of campers at the moment is blamed on the World Cup.
