Dumfries to Loch Doon
This should have been a comfortable distance, so I worked on the travelogue in the morning and set off about 2 pm. A late start restricts the rest periods and there was a headwind for much of the way, so this was a tough start for me. It was good to see Watsons Grocers at Moniaive open until 7 pm on a Saturday and a snack including tattie scones and fresh fruit was welcome. Seeing my wait afterwards for a red light to change, a girl informed me that these temporary lights were stuck on red. I can think of places where youngsters would hang on to this information!
The downhill cycle towards Carsphairn was as dramatic and scenic as ever. One of these days there will be the ability to interrupt the descent and to try to capture in photos the dramatic views of the hills.
On my arrival at the campsite I told manager Sparky that I was very tired. The site had been marking VE day with an event and some sandwiches and the like were left over. I needed no second bidding to help with their clearance, which facilitated the non-stop cycle to the Troon ferry the next day.
