Day 8 of Lap 4

Trip to Plockton from Broadford

Leaving at 7 am and knowing that the Market Kitchen with its fine fare was already open, the temptation to stop so soon was too much to resist. My mood was elevated and the scenery for the trip to Plockton was looking as good as ever. A Plockton sign claimed it to be the jewel of the highlands but "a" jewel might be acceptable. You can see why artists like to paint it.

The whole trip, broken into sections, totalled about 30 miles with 2000 feet of ascent and was probably about ideal before a relatively short touring effort in wet weather tomorrow afternoon. There were heavy showers today, but after them the mountain tops looked sharp against a very blue sky and Broadford Bay looked admirable.

Stopping off during my return it to Broadford it was my good fortune that a relative normally working too long hours to see him had had a booking cancelled. He had exceptional anecdotes of some of his guided tours and tipped me off about how to meet his young granddaughter and her mother for the first time. This meeting also was enjoyable and bodes well for future meetings with the whole family, who are now living conveniently close to other relatives.

Also on the route back was a debriefing session with another cousin whose interest in people, including those she has never met, reminds me of my mother. Fortunately I waited at her home long enough for her to return from a health visit, which had been remarkably successful.
