Day 17 of Lap 3

Loop through Foyers, Errogie and Essich

This was a most enjoyable and satisfying loop of about 40 miles with plenty of variety and good surfaces. The Falls of Foyers are well worth risking your knees on a lot of steps. Preferable to my photo below is that on The Highland Club website, which also gives the poetry that it inspired Robert Burns to write.

By the waterfall is a cafe and shop suitably positioned about half way round the loop, just before new public toilets.

As well as this famous viewpoint there are woods and forests, rivers and their valleys, mountains including those with steep cliffs and the lochs Ness, Mor, Duntelchaig and Ashie. Before the unbroken descent to Inverness are several miles on a plateau with views all around. See the altitude profile from Foyers below.

This loop was celebrated by a most enjoyable coffee and vegetarian lasagne at the Fairways restaurant and a visit to a relation to hear more about his life’s work and to say goodbye.

Today’s efforts count as training for the cycle back to Glasgow and Dumfries. The days stats are 47 miles with 2600 feet of ascent and 1869 active calories.
