Day 13 of Lap 3

Walking and Cycling in Inverness

The change from being about six miles from shops and eateries to having a large number of them within two miles is proving easy to accommodate. A walk before breakfast included a loop crossing two foot bridges over the River Ness and following the banks on either side. A wooded section on an island in the river was especially attractive. See photos of Ness Islands on the Visit Inverness Loch Ness website.

In the late morning a cycling to a cousin’s house was followed by a catch-up of recent activities, a wide-ranging discussion and the reliably tasty soup. Last time, disappointingly, I had just missed the unannounced visit of a mutual cousin with her husband.

In the afternoon advantage was taken of a handy retail park and then the trip back along the canal followed by use of the jet-boil stove for a hot drink. (Most campsites used recently have included the use of a kettle, if not a microwave, making the stove seem superfluous). In the early evening a 2km cycle along a designated path to the city centre and a walk along the main pedestrian street emphasised the huge choice here of shopping, eating and drinking.

The internet is not working in or around the tent tonight so this will be uploaded in the morning.
