Day 2 of Lap 3

Innerleiken to Silversands Bay at Aberdour

This was a day of highs and lows. The lows were negotiating horrible cycling surfaces on the left of roads that are in a disgraceful state in many places and are dangerous and also fighting against strong winds carrying rain for long enough periods to be drenching. Highs include long periods of downhill at a stretch, some good road surfaces, permission to camp here above the marram grass, and watching with others a race of a national school age sailing championships near Dalgety Bay.

Cycling Route 1 is better marked than it used to be but you are never sure if signs might have been rotated as a prank or by strong winds. On some of the by-ways it is difficult to believe what a majestic city you are aiming for.

The Golden Mile in Edinburgh was a must as it was for so many others and cameras were kept busy. Princes Street is good for heading out of Edinburgh by bike because most traffic is not allowed.

There has been heavy rain on the tent now for 30 mins, keeping dog walkers away from the beach for a while, but the wind has dropped. Must now find out how to get to the Dalgety Bay Leisure Centre for a shower tomorrow before visiting Muriel.
