Rest and Recuperation Activities
Back home and to active rest, planning some easy walking and a little cycling without a load. The main task is to make a rudimentary start with the travelogue and become familiar with the idiosyncrasies of the software.
Two routines that seem to have proved helpful for mental health (with stress as measured by Garmin watch maneagable) are activities before breakfast and effort with listing of positives for each day at home. Slightly edited list of notes for today:
- Stretching complete after almost complete break from it during tour, although massages of the quads while lying in the tent had felt useful. Lots of stretches for the back plus those designed to help with tightness around the knee. Foot exercises designed to alleviate and prevent plantar fasciitis (learned in Alderley Edge hospital to support electrical treatment when I was about 10 and playing more football than was good for me).
- Sister Deirdre agreed to help with her recollections, particularly of family drives from Wilmslow to Broadford for website. Part of the allure of Skye are the fond memories of summer gatherings there.
- Timely Amazon delivery and first use of products including Garmin lead to replaced damaged one and Scottish Bothy Bible to plan some exciting diversions from the main route.
- Found my very portable voice recorder and lead and charged and tested it ready for recording conversations with those who agree to its use. Provides backup to iPhone utility.
- Decided for normanstravelogue.co.uk the combination of IONOS and WordPress as suggested by Douglas about to be used by Douglas for his own website(s).
- Football: Liverpool win league and Man C beat Forest 2-0 in semi.
- LOTS of sport with which to remember the time of return from Lap 1 including from Graham (partner of Deirdre) that Queen of the South beat Stenhousemuir 2-0 to ensure their safety on my return to Dumfries and the London Marathon (in the first three of which I was a competitor). Also the first time it clashed with the Manchester Marathon (competed in by Adam MacKellar across the road recently as I think his only previous marathon before his inspirational 10 marathons in 10 days during the school holidays, raising over £6500 so far for Cash for Kids.
- Rest from cycling.
