Lochranza to Loch Doon
The cycle out of Lochranza towards Brodick is a tough climb, but there was very little traffic early in the morning and some weaving to lessen the slope was possible. The first stop in Brodick is usually the fine baker’s shop, where vegetarian sausages are especially tasty and the tattie scones so different from most that are available in supermarkets. At ArranActive I reported back the efficacy, for mornings with ice on the tent, of a survival blanket over a light sleeping bag with silk liner provided that waterproof clothing was placed in between to prevent any condensation from wetting the bag.
There was time to call in for a coffee at The Hollybush Inn, which looks good for a meal when visited at a suitable time. A chap doing some gardening told me that there was not a cafe in Patna and he recommended The Bacas for a meal. This was my final meal of the trip and both the lentil soup and the mushroom stroganoff went down a treat. Regular customers sang its praises and the service was friendly and intelligent.
