Day 7

Visiting Relatives in Broadford

Following several days of touring with a load, a day of seeing relatives with plenty of walking to replace the cycling is in order. I followed Fiona’s suggestion of a walk from the campsite to Irishman’s Point before breakfast. The path above the shore makes this walk quicker than it used to be. Afterwards, coffee and a roll containing vegetarian haggis from The Market Kitchen, seated looking towards Beinn na Caillich was especially pleasurable. Food and drink are served from 7 am and the banter even at this early hour creates a fine atmosphere.

Topics of conversations with relatives included keto diets, the range of jobs tackled by individuals in the community and news of the clan living in or near Inverness. Health matters featured prominantly and Sandra in the local care home named An Acasaid (anchorage/harbour) caused the greatest concern. Sandra told me I must go when she had had enough and this was after about fifteen minutes. There can be several consecutive days where she refuses visits.

The day included a walk to see the new accomodation of Calum and family in the Lime Park area, with impressive views of both Beinn na Caillich and the Broadford Bay. At the end of the day my watch reported 15000 steps, which is good for a day off. Athletes are advised to take “active rest” rather than do too much sitting.
