Visiting in Possilpark
Part 1
The early morning at Lambhill Stables was wonderful. From about 8 am the tent was too hot, causing sweating, but the outside temperature was perfect for the handwashing and quick drying of some kit. Breakfast in the Stables cafe was convenient and enjoyable.
The first visit to Herbert was disappointing. He was very sleepy in his room (at 29 C with the window open) and it was beyond me to get him to take needed fluid. The receptionist agreed that an evening visit would have more chance of a cooler room and perhaps communication.
This first part is being written in the nearby Possilpark Library (more than a mile south of Lambhill Stables, with an Allander Street address and the side of the library on Balmore Road), where there is no shortage of USB ports for phone charging – but charging is slow in the hot environment. Nearby, Bayne’s bakery is excellent for coffee and snacks and the Balmore Bar across the road from it is kept cool, is open long hours and shows World Cup matches.
Part 2
Herbert was much more talkative in the evening with the room temperature a bit lower, and although non-mumbled sentences were well-formed only a small fraction made sense to me.
Staff earlier had asked me to write down for them about Herbert’s early upbringing and they were also interested in the visit planned by a lady who had known Herbert at university.
After quite a long visit, sudden tiredness precluded a drink in the Balmore Bar and the sleeping bag is needed ASAP.
