Day 1 of Tour 1

Dumfries to Loch Doon

This was an enjoyable cycle with pleasant scenery, cool conditions, a generally favourable breeze and very little traffic. Picnic lunch at Moniaive was just too early for the folk festival, and a night at the festival campsite is a possibility for another year.

The scenic Loch Doon Caravanning and Camping Park has had tarmac roads constructed at great expense and seems to be flourishing. The TV screen here in reception is showing the nearby Ospreys’ nest. The room is sheltered from the strongish cold wind which had made it difficult to erect the tent.

The day’s stats were 46 miles with 2500 feet of ascent, a maximum elevation of 1000 feet and 1050 active calories.
