Lambhill to Kirkfieldbank
Riding through Glasgow following cycle routes 754, 756 and 75 went smoothly. Later, an experimental attempt near Cambuslang to follow the Clyde further on what turned out to be a deteriorating path was abandoned.
Route 75 was followed until Uddingston, then the Clyde Walkway (past the castle) until it joined Route 74. This section of the walkway had uneven ground, often covered with leaves, and was slow going on a laden bike.
The scenic A72 from Route 74 at Larkhill to Kirkfieldbank had busy and quiet sections and, although following the Clyde valley, was quite hilly. The number of nurseries and garden centres was remarkable.
Although the caravan park at Kirkfieldbank is still stated on at least one website to accept tents, it does not. The manager told me a good area nearby for wild camping, however.
Total stats for the day from a combination of cycling and walking with the bike were a distance of 44 miles with 2200 feet of ascent and 1450 active calories.
In the morning my cousin had been in better form for some of the time and even came out with a couple of witty remarks in his old style. The carers agreed, however, that when planning further trips to see him it would be sensible to take the earliest opportunity.
