Dumfries to Abington via Moffat
The route from Dumfries towards Glasgow suggested by the Komoot app was cycle Route 10 to Riddingwood House and then right to join the A701. It was too busy for my liking but the Autumn colours were admirable. The detour to Moffat for coffee from Cafe Ariete and food from Littleās bakery was certainly worthwhile.
The climb out of Moffat on the A701 was hard work but the views of the hills were rewarding. It was a relief to find out that the road to Abington, although closed for cars, was OK for bikes.
The weather was dry and mild but breezy and all of the hundreds of turbines seemed to be turning. Stats for the journey were a distance of 41 miles with 2500 feet of ascent and 1350 active calories.
The Mount View Caravan Park at Abington has pleasant views of several hills and my tent is only half a mile from the post office and general stores. Traffic noise from the A74M is considerable but you get used to it.
