Dunkeld to Inverhavon
The stated aim of the Invermill Farm Caravan Park is "to offer a peaceful and restful break in the most beautiful part of Scotland". Suitably refreshed after a fine sleep, there was much to appreciate in the day ahead.
The day started well, midge-free again, with a present of lightweight tent pegs found on a walk by fellow travellers. There was excellent weather for cycling north with some sunshine and a cooling breeze that was not too strong and favourable for some stretches. The scenery was varied, with a few miles early on near the river bank and through attractive woodland. Later on there was wild mountain moorland to admire.
Today was also a good one for chatting to cyclists. A Spaniard cycling from the Orkneys to Barcelona had plenty of advice for improvements to my bike for touring, which will be implemented soon. He bothered to translate Spanish sentences on his phone to be sure of getting it right. He also offered me mushrooms he had picked in the woods.
Simon from Warrington was touring back home from the Highlands. He had returned to touring after being off work for three months with injuries including a broken pelvis due to hitting a car that had turned left just in front of him at traffic lights. Touring must be really enjoyable to overcome the fear of a repeat accident!
The stats for today were a distance of 56 miles with 3000 feet of ascent and 1280 active calories. The ride tomorrow to the Inverness area should be reasonably comfortable.
