Positives for R&R Day 3
Walked 8500 steps to the Dumfries Tesco Extra to recycle plastic bags and buy factor 15 suncream (not skin block) and other necessary items for Lap 2. The cashier said that when she used to be on night shift in the huge building she could reach 20,000 steps restocking the store.
Enjoyed a coffee outside The Stove Cafe; a good place to watch the world go round while facing the fountain and hearing the water fall.
Shopped at the Trespass outdoor store for (1) a collapsible water bottle, (2) a headlamp with white and red options for both a tent lamp and for night-time walking and (3) a wide brim hat with flap for protection of ears and back of neck. Shopkeeper Graham informed me that from darkness eyes adjusted much faster to red light. He also had advice on avoiding midges and on how local weather forecasts depend on many assumptions.
Tried the purchases, finding batteries to fit the headlamp. Headlamp useful for finding stuff in cellar.
Made good progress with preparation of material for site from emails and notes and with clipping of photos and videos.
Stretching complete.
Commentary of Arsenal v PSG.
R&R Day 4
Signed up with IONOS for normanstravelogue.co.uk using help over the phone to make decisions. WordPress is a click away, so lots of reading about this software. Note to self that a theme controls the overall design and layout of the entire website, including fonts, colors, and structure. A template, however, defines the structure and layout of individual pages, posts, or sections. One theme at a time is active, but multiple templates can apply on a single page. Note that 30th April is the start date of the travelogue.
R&R Day 5
Lots of experimentation with WordPress and more reading as necessary. Interesting to see page source to view the code that has been added on one’s behalf. Plan of website on whiteboard included at first to show potential contributors that it will become substantial.
R&R Day 6
Preparation for Lap 2 tomorrow, with packing and decisions about what kit and food leftovers to take and which food could freeze well.
More progress with travelogue, reading about the software and writing some daily entries. Spent too much time sitting this week and must try to be more active after Lap 2.
Great to receive the promised photo of Castle Tioram from Duncan McEwan. It looks even more impressive on a large screen and you can see it here on the page of the fifth day of Lap 1.
