Lochranza to Kilmelford
What a difference a good night’s sleep and a following wind can make! This morning it was the noise of the wind flapping the tent rather than the rain that probably wakened campers. There were dry spells throughout the day interspersed with heavy showers. The forecast had been that suncream would be unnecessary and again, views were limited. The weather most likely was a reason for the light traffic.
An early departure from the campsite gave time to walk the bike to the ferry terminal, where there is shelter with good WiFi. The Sandwich Station opens at 7:30 and is difficult to ignore. There, a couple of fellow campers now living in Orkney advised on places there to visit with bike and tent. Other stops today were at Tarbert and Kilmartin.
Here at the campsite of Kilmelford Yacht Haven the excellent facilities are being appreciated. The shower would be difficult to better and the ability to use just the spin of the washing machine for a few hand-washed clothes makes sense.
Today’s stats (47 miles, 2500 feet of ascent and 1285 active calories) were rather similar to those a couple of days ago.
