Day 1 of Lap 4

Dumfries to Loch Doon

With a 9 am start, dull conditions and very light traffic, the cycling today was not arduous. The tops of several hills were in cloud and the scenery, although pleasant, was far from its best for this hilly route via Moniaive and Carsphairn. The stats were 47 miles, 2700 feet of ascent and 1200 active calories.

With arrival at the campsite in the early afternoon there is plenty of recovery time before an early morning start for Troon. Ferries to Brodick are still all sailing from Troon so, however the morning cycling goes, there will not be a long wait.

Here at the campsite there is talk of wild camping in the area being prohibited because of a refusal of some to do without their camp fires despite warnings about the danger of wildfires. There have also been complaints about litter left by some wild campers.
