New Cumnock to Dumfries
A 5 am start on the A76 did ensure relatively light traffic but there were still flurries of fast moving vehicles interspersed with periods with no overtakers providing chances to admire the scenery. The public toilet to the side of the main road next to a picnic area and in a beautiful setting at Ardoch is marked on the OS map and works fine except for the automatic system for handwashing.
The Marchbank bakery in Thornhill was getting good early trade, probably justifying its 6:30 am opening. Shortly after this stop I took a quieter route from Auldgirth to Dumfries via DAlswinton.
Highland Bikes had warned me that after the new transmission the bike could do with further attention. It is now booked in with Andrew Grant at DG2 Wheels at his earliest free date, which is a week on Tuesday. The next tour is planned for Skye and will begin the day after the additional work.
